This winter 4th grade students have learned about the wonders of space and the vastness of God's creation through the study of the moon and stars. In STEM, each student chose a constellation to study. Then they needed to research scientific facts about their constellation such as its magnitude and its distance from Earth. They were shocked to learn that each light year is approximately six trillion miles from Earth. Students learned the myths that go with each constellation as well as a Biblical meaning. For example, did you know that many cultures view Ursa Major not as a bear or big dipper but as a flock of sheep that follows the Herdsman (Jesus) constellation. In addition to research, students needed to plan, design, build, test, and in some cases redesign a constellation projector. They did a great job!
